This week's new development opportunities for artists and theatre professionals 25 July 2025
This week on Friday New Pathways, The Nest at Chichester Festival Theatre is launching! This is a brand-new venue, will throw open its doors over 31 Jul – 2 Aug, and kicks off a strand of artist development work the following weekend with workshops on Creative Connections on 8 August and a Tell Your Story Workshop on 9 August.
Submissions are open at The Other Palace in London with Mercury Musical Developments for Musical Bites, a series of lunchtime readings for new musical theatre writers to share 45 minutes of a work in progress. In Preston, Shakespeare North has a weekend of workshops coming up on the 1st and 2nd August with Follow What Feels Good is an accessible contemporary movement workshop, and From Non-Fiction to Narrative, a workshop on how to let lived experience influence creative output.
Wigan-based ThickSkin Theatre Company have announced open auditions for Generator, a new theatre company for young professionals, and Timelapse Theatre are opening casting for four of the five roles in their brand new show PRECIPICE.
And finally, Geese Theatre Company in Birmingham, have announced new dates for their three-day training course, The Other Side of the Wall on 3rd – 5th September 2025.
The Nest at Chichester Festival Theatre is launching! This is a brand-new venue, will throw open its doors over a launch weekend on 31 Jul – 2 Aug.
This intimate new studio space is powered by CFT and will have a dedicated artist development strand of work running through it. The following weekend offers three workshops:
Creative Connections are regular workshops for local artists to find out about opportunities and events taking place in Chichester, hosted by Creative Associate, Sophie Hobson… A great place to connect and network with like-minded creatives.
The next workshop takes place in The Nest on Friday 8 August at 1pm, with The Nest Producer Daniel Hill about the venue and the type of work that will be programmed in the space.
Tell Your Story Workshop will help you find your voice through creativity and share it with others, hosted by Ben Grant, exploring themes from his production, The Brown Ranger. Engage with your cultural background, uncover the rich tapestry of experiences that shape who we are. This 2 hour workshop takes place on Saturday 9 August.
Submissions are open at The Other Palace with Mercury Musical Developments for Musical Bites, a lunchtime series of readings that provide new musical theatre writers an opportunity to share a 45-min excerpt of their work in progress in front of supportive audiences.
The team are looking for New British musicals with a completed draft or final script, that can be condensed to a meaningful sharing of no more than 45 min. The musical can have been commissioned or workshopped already, but it can’t have received a professional production and must be able to be performed by max 4 actors, including musical director/pianist, due to space restrictions.
Deadline for applications: Friday 15 August, 6pm

Follow What Feels Good is an accessible contemporary movement workshop with Tip Tray Theatre & Studio Fluid. This is a free movement workshop exploring how you can listen to your body to create and enhance your own personal movement style. 3 hours on 1st August.
From Non-Fiction to Narrative is a workshop on how to let lived experience influence creative output with Tip Tray Theatre and writer Sean McLoughlin. Join this free writing workshop that explores transforming personal stories and lived experience into compelling narrative work. Open to writers of all levels, just bring a notebook or laptop, your curiosity, and any ideas or experiences you’re ready to explore. 2 hours on 2nd August.
Wigan-based ThickSkin Theatre have announced open auditions for Generator, a new theatre company for young professionals.
ThickSkin is looking for ten talented young performers aged 18-25 to join our Generator Company this Autumn. Over two intensive weeks in Wigan, you’ll create and perform a brand-new theatre piece, while fully immersing yourself in our innovative creative process at The Engine Room, Wigan (formerly Mill at the Pier).
This is a paid opportunity to perform. Places are allocated on first come first served basis until full. And auditions will be in person on Wed 10 Sept & Sat 13 Sept (10am–1pm & 2pm–5pm)
Timelapse Theatre are opening casting for four of the five roles in their brand new show PRECIPICE. A new musical premiering this winter at the New Diorama Theatre in London. The cast is an ensemble of five. Three actor-musicians and two actor-singers.
The contract pays £550 per week plus holiday pay (both rehearsals and performances) on terms agreed for New Diorama's in-house Equity contract.
Geese Theatre Company in Birmingham, have announced new dates for their three-day training course, The Other Side of the Wall on 3rd – 5th September 2025.
The Other Side of the Wall focuses on some of the basic principles behind Geese’s use of theatre and drama with people in secure and community settings. No previous drama or theatre experience is necessary, however a willingness to actively explore new methods of working is an essential requirement.
Cost: £380 (limited number of bursary / reduced cost places available for people with lived experience of the criminal justice system)
